Just in the past decade, she led the launch of two historic and successful legal cases against police misconduct (Daniels v NYC and Floyd v NYC) worked to pass landmark police reform legislation in New York City (Community Safety Act 2013) and New York State (Repeal CRL 50-a bill, Special Prosecutor, and NY STAT Act) and was a contributing writer to M4BL’s Vision for Black Lives.At a time when popular solutions to the educational plight of poor children of color are imposed from the outside-national standards, high-stakes tests, charismatic individual saviors-the acclaimed Algebra Project and its founder, Robert Moses, offer a vision of school reform based in the power of communities. Monifa also sits on the steering committee for the New York-based Communities United for Police Reform. Monifa Bandele sits on the Leadership Team for the Movement for Black Lives. The Movement for Black Lives is an ecosystem of individuals and organizations creating a shared vision and policy agenda to win rights, recognition, and resources for Black people. In July 2008, Cobb was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame. From 1985-1997 Cobb was a member of the Editorial Staff of National Geographic magazine.

In 1976 he joined the staff of National Public Radio as a foreign affairs reporter. A founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Cobb began his journalism career in 1974 as a reporter for WHUR Radio in Washington, DC. He is also a co-editor of No Easy Victories, American Activists and African Liberation over a Half Century. Moses he co-authored Radical Equations, Civil Rights From Mississippi to the Algebra Project. With civil rights organizer and educator Robert P. He is also the author of On the Road to Freedom, a Guided Tour of the Civil Rights Trail.

Cobb’s latest book is This Nonviolent Stuff’ll Get You Killed. He was a SNCC field secretary in Mississippi from 1962-67.

He is also a visiting professor at Brown University where he conducts an undergraduate seminar titled The Organizing Tradition of the Southern Civil Rights Movement.
